DATA - PRC® 4429 PRC® 4429 INSULATING GLASS SEALANT D PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant is a high performance, two part polyurethane sealant specifically developed for sealing insulating glass units against moisture, cold, heat, and contamination. PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant exhibits outstanding resistance to weathering, ozone, and solar radiation and provides for excellent adhesion to glass and aluminum. PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant contains no solvents, and therefore exhibits no shrinkage. Use PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant has been developed to provide an enduring elastomeric seal utilized in the manufacture of insulating glass units. Applicable standards Insulating glass units manufactured with PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant meet or exceed the requirements of the following specifications: USA ASTM E-774 Canada Can/CGSB 12.8 Limitations PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant is not intended for use in units manufactured for structural glazing applications. Units manufactured with PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant must be fabricated and glazed in accordance with recognized industry standards. PRC® 4429 is intended for use in typical residential or commercial applications. Use of PRC® 4429 in units to be exposed to severe conditions, such as extreme heat or moisture, should be reviewed by PRC-DeSoto International Technical Services. Use of PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant on coated glass (i.e. soft coat Low E) should be tested for adhesion and compatibility. Contact your glass supplier for specific recommendations. PRC® insulating glass sealants are compounded to be compatible with many commercial glazing materials. The panels should be flushed thoroughly with softened or deionized warm water to remove all traces of detergent and immediately blown dry with oil free high pressure air. Metal: To obtain good adhesion, the surfaces should be cleaned with an oil free solvent. Nylon: Due to variations in corner key materials, testing for adhesion should be done. Primers for optimum adhesion are available. Mixing instructions Note: Proper mixing and correct proportions are extremely important to obtain optimum results.

PRC® 4429 INSULATING GLASS SEALANT Various types of mechanical mixers can be used for mixing and dispensing PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant. Continuous flow type mixers such as Graco, Pyles and H & G may be used to mix and dispense PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant. When using these mechanical mixers, automatic metering devices must be adjusted to deliver base compound with accelerator in the ratio of 100:8 by volume (100:5.6 by weight). Proper quality assurance procedures should be established to check mix quality on a regular basis. Application properties Application life is the period of time that the compound remains at a consistency suitable for application. Application life is based on standard conditions at 75°F and 50% relative humidity. PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant’s application life can be adjusted to meet specific manufacturing requirements. Curing characteristics PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant cure time is adjustable and related to application life. PRC® 4429 insulating glass sealant, in most plant conditions, will cure to a firm flexible rubber within 1 1/2 - 3 hours. Cure times can be reduced by curing at elevated temperatures, not to exceed 115°F. Maintenance Repair to damaged areas, or remedial work on sealant, requires cutting back to fresh material (if existing sealant is more than 24 hours old) and applying new material. For specific recommendations, contact your local sales office.
